Benefits of Coconut Oil
Known as a power fruit, the coconut provides us more than a refreshing drink. It can be used in your kitchen, bathroom and even on the beach. It's important to note that when buying coconut oil, you should go with extra virgin unrefined coconut oil opposed to refined coconut oil. Why? Because extra virgin olive oil tastes better and is better for you. So why not?
1. Use it in your food and drinks.
-You can replace your cooking oils with coconut oil.
-Substitute cream with coconut oil for your morning coffee.
-Use it as a salad dressing.
-Spread it on toast instead of using butter.
Coconut oil contains a fatty acid called medium chain triglycerides (MCT). This fatty acid is rare and smaller doses can be found in grass-fed dairy products, and palm kernel oil. Most oils, such as olive oil, contain long chain triglycerides. What's the difference? MCT's have a higher smoking point of 350℉ vs. LCT's that have a smoking point of 275℉. What this means is you can heat up coconut oil up to 350℉ before it becomes harmful. You can only heat up olive oil to 275℉ before it becomes harmful. Overheating your oil can cause free radical damage in your body. MCT's also transfer to energy quicker supporting weight loss and improving brain function. They can help remove viruses, bacteria and fungi from your body as well.
Coconut oil can help reduce bad cholesterol by replacing it with good cholesterol your body needs. Coconut is very kind to your heart helping reduce the risk of heart disease. There are anti-cancer benefits in coconut oil as well. And if your constipated, coconut oil can help with that too. There are numerous benefits to using coconut oil, and that's why it's recommended to consume about 2 tablespoons per day.
